Past the graveyard

Where it's always raining
and getting darker every day
And kids are sharing cigarettes
and into the windless hall

that night, i took the bus
to my after-school job
walked up and down aisles in my vest
ate fries in the back with Mike
caught a glimpse of Esther in the mirror
and her boyfriend picking her up

when it was the weekend
and i went back to work
Mike was crying
he said there was an accident
last night on 95
and Esther didnt make it

it was my birthday, the 10th of April
i wrote it all down and threw it away
